Therapeutic
Programs
In
the course of treatment for Sensory Processing Disorder, and related
regulation/processing type disorders, there are options for companion
programs that may enhance ongoing Sensory Integrative therapy. In
this section we
will discuss and share information about many programs we feel have
been beneficial to our kids.
In all cases, a parent or adult needs to discuss additional or
alternative treatment
options with their doctor, therapist or professional who oversees
treatment.

How
Does Your Engine
Run? The ALERT Program
For working on an
adult or a child's regulation of levels of arousal (alertness) many of
our families have been very happy with the increased awareness and
results of this valuable program. "The book, How Does Your Engine Run? A Leader's
Guide to the Alert Program for Self-Regulation (Williams & Shellenberger, 1996),
describes an innovative program that supports children, teachers,
parents, and therapists to choose appropriate strategies to change or
maintain states of alertness. "
